theme description

It’s tough to write a summary of this theme knowing it’ll be released when I hit Publish. I’ve never been so excited about a release as I am this one. It’s my best theme yet, and I’ve also set up the support forum to go along with its release!

WP CODA and CODA BLUE have been amazing successes, but they aren’t without their flaws. They’re very limited in the type of content they can display and how they can display it, they have trouble displaying specific types of content properly, things tend to “break” easily with them and you need to understand a little coding to customize them. They’re both over a year old now and I’ve put that added experience and all that user feedback into WP SLIDER, which is an amazing theme.

WP SLIDER takes the idea behind the coda themes and improves upon them in every way using the hundreds of user feedback comments I received and the experience I’ve gained along the way. The biggest change is that WP SLIDER can display any type of wordpress content, in any way you want using the included plugin. Every aspect and element of WP SLIDER can be customized or turned off. Gone are the days of having to open a theme file to make changes. Of course, the html and css are as easy to read and customize as ever WP SLIDER is just more accessible. In fact, you can disable the sliding feature altogether if you like.

I could easily set up a dozen demo sites using this theme to show you all the ways it can be customized, but I’m far too excited to spend any more time setting up demo’s. If you have a question that starts with “can WP SLIDER …”, the answer is yes.

Pages you should take a look at:
Archive Page
Article including all kinds of markup and a gallery
Article Comments
Article Reply
Image / Attachment with the advanced gallery disabled, this is what your user will see
Custom Login / Register / Lost Password

As you can see, everything (I think) was considered when developing this theme. And if it wasn’t, or there’s a feature you want I’ll build it for you. Why wouldn’t I? If there’s a way to improve this theme, I want to!

What could you use this theme for?
• Portfolio (art, writing, poetry, video, etc.)
• Blog
• Business
• Commerce
• What couldn’t you use this theme for?

I could go on and on about how much I love this theme, but I’ll let it speak for itself. Scroll down for a list of some of the more important features. If you still have a question, please send me an email and I’ll respond in a timely manner.

Will WP Slider Lite be offered for free?

by Choice Themes

May 26, 2009 at 6:23 pm

The WP SLIDER lite demo is actually the WP SLIDER theme in full, I just have a lot of the options turned off in the admin panel to show you how customizable it is. I’ve spent a lot of time developing free themes, and I will continue to develop themes and release them free. This one however will be for sale only. WP CODA and CODA BLUE will remain free though.

WOW! Nice design. I love the choice of colors and the effect. What could this theme be used for ? A portfolio ?

by Choice Themes

May 26, 2009 at 5:36 pm

A portfolio, an entire blog, a business site, a tutorial site, you name it. With the advanced options in the control panel you can get WP SLIDER to do just about anything. And if you can’t, I’ll help you figure it out myself.

Are there any plans for a dev license for this or does the $47 cover that as well? I wouldn’t mind trying this out on several client sites.

by Choice Themes

May 26, 2009 at 6:20 pm

I had not considered this, no. Because this is my first paid theme release and I’m not completely familiar with the landscape of dev licenses for WordPress Themes let me take some time to research this avenue. If you or anyone else has any input though, I’d be very grateful for it.

May 26, 2009 at 6:22 pm

This is the best wordpress theme, I have ever seen. It look awesome! Nice work! I will try to figure out if I can use for my blog. Is there a custom control panel in wp admin? I mean a custom page, where you can edit this theme i.e a toolkit.

by Choice Themes

May 26, 2009 at 8:16 pm

Yes, there is a theme management plugin in the wordpress admin area where you control all the different aspects of the themes functionality.

I thought about it, but the problem is making the dashboard not actually save changes. It’s possible, probably, but a lot of work.

I can’t beleive I didn’t mention this. YES! There are 3 widget “sidebars” you can use in the footer area as seen on the WP SLIDER demo.

Using the scrollbar track itself. The scrollbar also has the option to have scroll up and scroll down arrows on it which can be useful on an iPhone as well.

If you’re looking for free themes, check out all the rest of the themes here. This one is for sale only though. We all have to pay our bills eventually :)

May 26, 2009 at 9:30 pm

Congratulations, Greg — I wish you all the best. In fact, I’m just plain proud and excited for you. Your debut themes turned wp theming on it’s head with innovative design and rocking enthusiasm from a designer who really listened to his users. This newest reflects both that enthusiasm and listening more than I’ve seen from any other designer.

The old adage — don’t say anything if you have nothing new and valuable to add to the conversation? I applaud you for your initial statement of not giving the community a theme till you felt you had something new and special to add — and then you walked your talk with WP Coda and be best sequels I have ever seen.

I wish you every kudo, award and recognition you deserve for this, your first paid effort. I’ll be using it in my first real site for my first real product. And I will credit you all the way.

Enjoy your creation :)

I don’t trust my eyes. This theme is beautiful designed and incredibly innovative. I’m not sure yet, if the usability is as easy to understand for an internet noob as a common layout. But I’m already looking for my credit card. You will earn 47 Dollars in a few minutes. I have no idea, what I will use this theme for yet, but I’m sure I will find something. 😉

by Ixo

May 27, 2009 at 3:56 am

This is totally extreme!

I have question Greg, are there any hidden ‘boxes’ in this theme, where you can throw in adverts, and those boxes are configurable via admin panel?

I would really love this theme with that feature, it would be a way batter than messing up with code and putting it alone.

Please, do so, and I’m your client. :)

by Choice Themes

May 27, 2009 at 4:44 am

You are free to remove the link in the footer on this and any of my free themes. Unlike a lot of free WordPress Themes out there, I do not expect anyone to keep the credit link there. It is appreciated of course, but not expected.

Everything is set up to degrade for devices without javascript support. The site functionality is done before adding javascript so that it is non-destructive. Currently there is no option to disable it entirely, but I would be happy to add that feature if there is a demand for it.

Yes, you may use the theme on a clients site. Until I set a price for a dev license though, a copy would need to be purchased for each client you are developing for.

There are no hidden boxes in there at the moment, no. I have developed ad managemnt scripts though and it wouldn’t be too difficult to implement one. There is a great solution that exists for this already called OpenX (it’s free and open source), so I’m not sure anything I developed would be as feature-rich as what is already available.

The menu is indeed customizable and can show pages instead of post categories.

To everyone that has purchased
THANK YOU! If you don’t receive a download link right away, don’t fret. Paypal can take 30 seconds to notify me or several hours depending on, well, not sure exactly. Everyone who has purchased thus far has received their download though. If you haven’t, feel free to contact me using the contact form and I’ll take care of it asap as long as I’m not asleep.

Type your comment here …Hi Greg,

I really like the work you do. I would like to echo the comments of several other users in that if you made a dev license availble I would defintitely pay for it. Thanks for all your efforts.

Can you set up a page as the default home page, instead of the list of posts that appear in the current demo? and sone more question… and sorry to ask again, but psd files are included?…btw count on download from Spain…am I the first one????

by Michelle

May 27, 2009 at 9:07 am

Hi Greg, thanks! this looks fantastic.

I was wondering if it’s possible with this theme to ‘slide’ through *lots* of posts – my site is a poetry showcase with dozens of poems. Right now in the demo it looks like you click on a post, then can slide to it’s comments etc, but not to the next post.

In my ideal world, visitors would be able to do a search on the poems, then page/slide through their results. Or more simply, click on a poet’s name and slide through all that poet’s poems.

Do you think this kind of thing is possible in the theme as it stands or would I need to fiddle with it a lot?

Thanks again!

Great work! That is a really impressive theme.

I could use it for my portfolio, however I would prefer to move the search box to the top-right corner and Sub-page strip as a Drop-down when move is taken over the page…..

I will try to make the changes when I work on my Portfolio….

BTW, Are there any color variations going to be released ?

by Choice Themes

Yes, you can set a page as the index page just as you can with any wordpress theme. The PSD files are indeed included. Not sure if you’re the first one from Spain or not :)

This would be fairly simple to do, and I’d be glad to help you with it.

@Jash Sayani,
At the moment I’m not planning on releasing any color variations of it, but you never know.

I have seen Themes, and I have seen themes- but up until now – I had never truly seen a REAL THEME ! This is not only the MOST PERFECT-ed theme ever created , it is also soooo far ahead of its time -it can be classified 25th Century . KUDOS – I also love the WP Coda theme ( which was the very first one which caught my eye on another site & I followed the yellow brick road back here . Was worth the journey :) Got to read your gripe w/ WP , and I must say : I agree w/ your take on the entire situation . It can be equated to Davinci & Michelangelo working for the sake of their art while the church fathers were reaping the rewards of their labors …..oh, now isnt that what actually happened ? Ok, ok , so now I agree w/ you even further – Developers , Designers & Artists def should not allow anyone [ Corp/ Org. ] to benefit off their work now , or ever. Wishing you much deserved success within all of your endeavors :)

Greg, you are an artist!  You said “everything (I think) was considered when developing this theme. And if it wasn’t, or there’s a feature you want — I’ll build it for you.”  I’ll buy this theme in a heartbeat if you will ‘build’ different color variations.  I’m currently putting together a site that would require a slightly softer color theme (something more like CODA BLUE).  Would you consider it?   **Yes, I am a workaholic and that’s why I’m sending this comment on Christmas.** : )
